Some years ago, the only accommodation to be found on the island was a basic rented room in town or a small hotel. Nowadays, however, Skiathos is very cosmopolitan and there is something to suit everyone`s taste and pocket. You can choose from staying in town and enjoy being close to the tavernas, cafe bars and nightclubs, or you can find accommodation in the countryside or at one of the beach resorts which have sprung up alongside the main road which runs the length of the island.
The most economical accommodation is still a simple rented room which is usually easy to find, except for at the very height of the season (i.e. in August) as, when every boat arrives, there will be room owners waiting at the port. The majority of rooms in Skiathos now have air conditioning, a fridge and a small balcony at the very least. Most rented rooms are in or close to Skiathos town, but there are also rooms near most of the main beaches, for example in Troulos and Koukanaries.
If you are looking for accommodation which has more facilities, there is a large selection of hotels to choose from, ranging from 2 stars through to 5 stars. Again, the majority of hotels are to be found in and around Skiathos town, but there are also hotels and luxury apartments at all the main beach resorts.
If, however, you prefer self catering or to have more space, you might like to book an apartment, private villa or town house. There is now a huge range of villas and houses on Skiathos available to rent, from small one bedroom town houses to four-bedroom villas with a private pool that can sleep up to 8 people.
